Activist Spotlight: Still Wild Still Threatened (Australia)
In 2006, a group of grassroots environmental activists representing forests and communities in Southern Tasmania joined together in recognition of the continuing threat to Tasmania’s ancient forests. Since this time the Still Wild Still Threatened (SWST) campaign for Tasmania’s Southern Forests has garnered significant attention and dramatically raised the public profile of forests such as the Styx, Weld, and Upper Florentine.
Still Wild Still Threatened advocates for the immediate formal protection of Tasmania’s precious Southern Forests using a combination of political and corporate lobbying, community education, research, exploration and frontline direct action. In addition, the group promotes the creation of an equitable and environmentally sustainable forest industry in Tasmania. Protecting Tasmania’s ancient forests: a real climate change solution.

On January 1st, Replenish Records established a “donate-what-you-want” pay scale on our entire digital catalogue with 100% of the proceeds being donated to a number of different nonprofit organizations all over the globe in the name of our artists. Together, Replenish Records and Encircling Sea were able to raise $200 for Still Wild Still Threatened during the first month of fundraising alone, which will be used for “direct action and a new banner for the blockade site” by the environmental activists in Australia. On behalf of everyone involved, we would like to thank you for the considerable amount of contributions thus far, we only hope that we can continue to help raise the funding needed for Still Wild Still Threatened to continue their campaigns against deforestation in Southern Tasmania.
Replenish Records is a collective of artists making music to inspire social change, and this is more or less our way of ensuring that we are not only raising awareness of important issues, but also raising the much needed funds to support those who specialize in direct action. So while you may not be supporting us directly, you are supporting the change that we could only hope to achieve by offering our music for free and spreading our message as far and as wide as possible, and that’s seriously all we could ever ask.
